The Basic Story Line
Skate 2 begins when you emerge from a five-year prison sentence to find New San Vanelona City virtually destroyed by a natural disaster. You now face basically unfamiliar territory.
The virtual reality Mongocorp Company has added obstacles for the skater who uses its architectural structure, ramps, etc. You need to quickly learn how to remove these and Mongocorp security deals with skaters who encroach near the company.
Your aim in Skate 2 is to rebuild your career after emerging from prison. You need to compete at races and face competition from pros that provide interesting challenges and photo shoots for magazines.
Skate 2 allows you liberty to perform whichever tricks you like in order to pursue high scores or to comply with the rules for photo shoots.
The tricks themselves are not difficult to perform, but are executed in very similar ways which makes them difficult for use with analog-stick controls. Sometimes using analog-stick controls leads to inaccurate movements necessitating replays. You will find yourself hitting the replay button a lot during photo shoots for a minor infraction such as falling off a wall.
If you are in a rush, you can get around the city by “Skitching” – this means going into a time warp and skating around with the use of a map. Great Fun.
Although Skate 2 has a realistic set, it keeps its good game play, despite the irritation of finding pedestrians and traffic in the way and having to replay. New features are the ability to move objects around by holding down a shoulder button. Ramps, rails and dumpsters which are light enough to be pushed (or pulled) by a single skater can also be inadvertently bumped out of position when skaters bump into one another. They then have to be realigned into position.
Something to note:
A weird feature – pedestrians dropping “physics-enabled” litter can have you resort to picking up a quarter-pipe to sweep apples, bottles and other objects out of the way!
